Yeah... There's one "stupid" option - Air carriers can being charging a percentage of total cost based on the passenger's weight ;)) At the risk of this being a huge loss to me, this is one logical area of concern since the amount of carriage is the single most important driver of the carrier's cost.

Or maybe they can go the DTC way! Have those high holders on the pathways, so that they can sell tickets to ppl who wanna STAND and travel ;)) And I can assure you that this option would be more than welcome in India - And BE DIFFERENT to the way the industry operates in the rest of the world :)

As Ujj mentions, there is a mismatch in basic infrastructure(reaching the airport) and the airport.

***
I had spoken to a BD guy at Galileo(Galileo,Abacus,Amadeus etc provide the back end for OTAs).
From him I figured that OTAs pay them for every single search that one does.

So, a you or a me who would search 3-4 OTAs and meta aggregators like ixigo/ezeego1 before buying a ticket.

This covers about everything except the customer aspect. Rising cost of operations is one thing but what about losing customers? If I have to travel 2 hours to get to the airport, for a one hour flight , I would certainly not be interested.

The cost of some air tickets is 500 bucks, a taxi would cost more than that to reach the airport. I think the aviation industry is going to go through some really dark ages and its a lesson that we needed to learn. We are trying to build luxury infrastructure when our primary basic necessities of a good and fast local infrastructure is inexistent.

I think today, customers do not mind paying a little more. In fact don't think they mind paying a lot more either, provided they get better services but the customers of today absolutely hate dumb services and would not think twice before deciding that they've had enough. If I was in the aviation industry, Id be more worried about this than operation costs.
